What is an In-Office Facelift?
The In-Office Facelift (also known as a “mini-facelift”) is a facelift that can be performed in our office under local anesthesia and tumescent anesthesia in about 3-4 hours. It can help reverse the effects of age, gravity, and/or weight loss by removing excess skin in the face and neck and tighten the deeper facial muscle structures to give a more youthful but natural appearance. Laser resurfacing is often performed in conjunction with this procedure.
How Does an In-Office Facelift Compare to a Traditional Facelift?
While a traditional lower facelift is done in the operating room under general anesthesia and takes about three to four hours, the Mini-facelift allows for less recovery time, less expense, and more flexibility while giving fantastic results in a safe and controlled environment. Both the “mini-facelift” and the traditional face lift have incisions made in similar areas and both give great improvement in skin laxity and facial tone and sharpen/restore the angle between the face and neck. Basically, the only difference between a lower facelift and a Mini-lift is the type of anesthesia used. Tumescent Anesthesia is a form of local anesthesia that allows the surgeon to anesthetize a large area of tissue without causing toxic effects. The advantage of tumescent anesthesia is that it allows surgeons to operate on patients without general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. This lowers the risks of the surgery considerably. Most serious and all life-threatening complications from a facelift surgery and any other elective cosmetic surgery, in general, are related to general anesthesia and its inherent risks. So, with a Mini-facelift, serious complications are extremely unlikely and appeals to most patients.
Although the Mini-facelift is done under local anesthesia, the patient is very comfortable and feels nothing during the surgery. Usually the patient sleeps during the surgery and has to be woken up at the end of the procedure.
